Are You a Carer?

A carer is a person who takes unpaid responsibility for the physical and/or mental well being of someone who cannot perform the tasks of daily living unaided because of old age, disability, illness mental distress or affected due to substance misuse.

The person cared for may be a relative, neighbour or disabled child who needs support to live at home. A significant number of carers are are aged under 18.

The practice aims to identify all patients who have carers and all patients who are carers in order to offer them support and direct them to the appropriate services.
